I got to meet Guillermo del Toro tonight, and boy was he awesome. Really funny and humble and just really seemed passionate about the work he does, and very grateful to be doing what he does. He's an inspiration creativly and as a human being. I can't wait to work on the Hobbit!! I hope he actually finds this blog and looks at some of my work!

Sounds like a repeat... Because it is. A year and a half ago I signed up for Animation Mentor but ended up not doing it because of my amazing opportunity at Rhythm and Hues. Well, here I am, still at Rhythm and Hues, about to go onto my fourth film, and still craving knowledge. I applied again, and was accepted into the Winter '09 program. I can't tell you how excited I am... Not starting til January 5th. But it'll come soon enough.

I just finished watching The Pixar Story, and I am absolutley inspired. Well, half depressed because I missed out on all amazing filmmaking at Pixar, but incredibly inspired to make a film as great as theirs. I've cracked open a new journal and am brainstorming a new film. I went back to my school today to give industry reviews whch was amazing. I've truly come full circle. It's been a year since I graduated and I can't believe it. I've pretty much ridden out The Look of Love as long as I can, and I'm ready to embark on a new journey. I'm excited, and like Pixar films, I want this one to be bigger, better, more challenging, and hopefully a bigger collaberation.

I have to say, as I reflect on the past year of my life, I am only left when gratitude and joy for what I get to do for a living. I've read on many animation blogs and spoken to many animators, and I have to say we definitely are some of the most grateful people to be doing what we are doing. On the other hand, the job can be grueling at times. Harsh hours, little sleep, and very little contact with our loved ones. But at work, we have definitely become a family, and I am so happy to be working with so many people that I care about and enjoy spending time with (otherwise we would be at each others throats..haha.) I can't say anything but thanks to everyone who helped me get here. As I embark on my 3rd film in 1 year, all I'll say is wow, I love my job.

Well, I went to the CTA(College Television Awards) this weekend and had a blast! I met some great people, and had a lot of fun. It was really great to have my family there with me also. I came in 3rd place, but as I watched the other winner in ALL categories, I realized what great company I was in, and what an honor it was to recieve such a prestigous award. There was some amazing work!

The Golden Compass wins the Oscar!!!!

Congrats to everyone at Rhythm and Hues for their big win at the Oscars this year for Best Visual Effects! I didn't get a chance to work on it, but I did see lots of people around me working on it and it turned out amazing. Bill Westenhofer even brought the Oscar by the studio for all of us to get a chance to look at it close up. I have to admit it was one of the most exciting moments in my life to hold that thing. Haha. Congrats to all who were a part of it. I'm so proud to be a part of this company.

After nearly 2 years of working on this crazy short film. It is done!!!! I can't thank everyone who helped me enough. Steve Ogden for the motivation to keep going. Dallas Taylor for his amazing sound effects job. And Siddhartha Barnhoorn for his great original score. These people kept me going on the film for the last 6 months, and I am forever in debt to these men I have never even met face to face, for helping me out so much on this film and believing in me and the project.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know Alvin and the Chipmunks comes out on Friday! It's really cute and the kiddies will love it! On another note, I am currently rendering out the final cut of my film in After Effects. I just have to send it off to my sound guy and it's done! So expect in in the next 2-3 weeks! Seriously, no joke, I really mean it this time... Haha.

Hey all! I'm off for the week and working on my film. I've pretty much re-animated everything I was gonna re-animate. It may not be the best animation I've ever done, but it's clean, solid and the story is nice, I think... I'm gonna spend tomorrow trying to re-render some stuff. We'll see how quickly it goes... After I re-render everything, I'll put it back together, send it off to my sound guy, have him make some tweaks and finish off the sound and it's done!!! I have given myself the deadline of the end of December. It will be done! I can't wait to show it to the world. Thanks to anyone and everyone who looks at this blog and is interested at all in my little short film. I really hope everyone enjoys it.

Well, I have been incredibly busy at work. We are working 6-7 days a week 10 hours a day on Alvin and the Chipmunks, but it'll be worth it in the end. With each new shot completed, we can all really see the film coming together. It's gonna be really cute. Especially if you have young children. I'll be done with Alvin soon and then back to some final touches on The Look of Love. Over the past month or two I have had an original sore done by Siddartha Barnhorn and sound design by Dallas Taylor. It's really coming together. I have made some animation changes and only have a couple changes left and then some rerendering and it's done! I'm hoping by December it will be complete!

I also have a big announcement coming up by the end of the month! Stay tuned....

With the help of a friend's advice, I have decided to continue to work on The Look of Love. I think it is pretty good for the time I put into it, but a lot was rushed, and it still needs some TLC. I'm goning to work on it in my free time and hopefully have a final product in about 6 months. Thanks to anyone who actually looks at this blog. I promise, I will have a film!!!

Exciting times are here! I have finished my short film, graduated from college, and got a job at Rhythm and Hues. I'm going to be entering into the apprenticeship program and then hopefully transitioning into a freelance position. It seems like an amazing place to work and I'm really excited to be working in film right out of school.

Since my job is gonna be so cool, I am going to hold off from Animation Mentor for the time being, seeing that I will probably learn an incredible amount on the job.

I have just been accepted to the Summer 2007 term of Animation Mentor. I'll be graduating from Otis in a few weeks and then heading on to greener pastures. I can't wait to start. I really think it will push me to the point I hope to reach as an animator. Wow..I'm really excited!

The Look of Love

This page will serve as a production diary for my short animated film "The Look of Love".
It is a minute and a half 3D animated film about one womans struggle to capture the attention of a seemingly uninterested man.
